How Much Can a Mother Bear? My daughter wants so desparately To be a mother, you see... A prouder prospect you will never know. But how much of a line must she tow? Average or normal she does not seem, Only the rarest, she's a SPECIAL being! Not once, but twice you see... She gave birth unexpectedly. To God she gave them, reluctantly, But knowing His hands would keep them free Of sin and ugly mortality. To be a mother is what she wants. To hold her baby more than once. To comfort and wipe the tears, To cuddle and free its fears. I, too, am a mother with sorrow so deep, For she is my daughter with tears in her eyes. How many times must I watch her weep? How many times must I hear her cries? All she wants is a child to love, One given her from the Father above. He giveth and He taketh, Too often you see... When she hurts, it hurts me. How much can one mother bear? As much as it takes, for her child she will care. Three mothers are we, we will always be... No matter the hurdles in front of thee. (Oct. 21, 2005, for daughter Jessica, her mother in law, and myself) |
